WTF, Rurik?
is it just me or does rurik really noob it up in ruins of surmia during hm? i don't recall him running in and aggroing 3 groups in nm...
is it generally accepted as "intended" that he sometimes follows and then when you're about to pull something, he turns around and books it up the hill and aggros 3 groups? it certainly makes this (the mission that friends of mine had decided even in beta was the "worst mission in the game") a lot more difficult. the only other escort npc mission i've done so far in hm was ice caves and evennia (bless her heart) had better sense than to do that. if it's intended then...i guess this one hm mission is actually hard...but...wow. i haven't done too many hm missions yet but all the ones i've done (kryta, ascalon and south shiverpeaks) have been way easier than that one (just because of rurik's crazy "leeroy" moves). if anyone knows a way to get him to quit it, i'd appreciate it because i've played this mission 7652349857632495867 times in normal mode and i'd like to minimize the number of attempts i make at doing it now...i still hate this rediculously long mission... just wondering if it's an "oops" on anet's part since the only hm missions i've tried so far (all prophecies) haven't been that much harder than nm. matter of fact, gates of kryta with level-appropriate characters on nm was harder than hm with decent heroes and hench. ice caves seemed to feel about the same. |

I didn't give him chance. Moment you go through the gate to the other half to the mission just go the other way and kill the boss, end of mission. Managed to do the mission only in less than 10 minutes on HM

(this is kinda embarassing...)
yeah...if you're saying what i think you're saying...actually...are you talking about killing bonfazz burnfur in nolani academy? that's how i usually play that one anyway... if you are talking about surmia, i'm not really sure which part that is. i'm atlking about the like...3 or 4 prisons where rurik runs up and frees them when you get close. there is one (i think the second of three) prisons where there's 3 charr groups (with a total of 3 martyrs...not sure about any other monks) and he was following me fine until i was about to pull this group of 2 back a little and he just turns around and books it up the hill. needless to say, there's enough guardian titles out there for me to kinda be embarassed asking this...i just really learned to hate this mission in beta because we just played it AT LEAST ONCE every beta weekend (because of character wipes or friends just playing for the first time. |

Rurik has always been a buggy aggro monkey. One time in NM he was stuck on a hill engaging the Flame Temple Keeper guys so I was forced to kill them right there and lose the bonus, else Rurik would have died and it's back to the outpost.
Him Leeroying 24/7 and aggroing a ton of things all the time is nothing new. It just has more magnitude and thus is more irritating in HM. |

Oh Surmia... my bad. I skim read it and assumed you were talking about Nolani. Part about luring and him running up the hill (after you do the Stormhorn thingy) is mainly why.
I never had any problems with him on Surmia. He was a little bit overzealous at the end, but that could be sorted out by just ignoring him until you've cleared the area. But for the prison part... he was a good boy. |

I never thought Rurik was THAT suicidal (until HM).
Now Kilroy Stonekin...at the final chamber he aggroes like three mobs. Ouch. |

Keeping Rurick out of trouble towards thatend is simple.
When you go looking for a way to lower the drawbridge, He and his buddy will stay there. Instead of lowering the bridge when you get to the other side, clear everything out, including the mobs that attack in the final battle. Once they're down, go back and get Rurick - game over, you win! (you may have to wait a bit once you've got him in that slanted place with the scepter mages, but the cinematic will trigger.) |
